How to upload an image to include within a post?

How do I upload an image to a new post from my computer? I have seen other people include images in their post.

I tried the "insert image" button but it keeps asking for a web link address, I dont get it?

Also is there a way to have notification type set to instant email notification by default rather than keep selecting it each time? Most good forums have that on by default.

Either the image has to be available on some other website or you have to upload it to another website first.
Right click and see the image properties for the images in other posts to see what websites other members use for uploading.

Imagecave.com springs to mind - just one of hundreds if not thousands.

There used to be a good guide sticked at the top, but the towers decided to replace it with a pretty useless (IMO) Forum Introduction Guide

Go to 'User CP', click on 'Edit Options' and in the second box down you can change to instant notification.

But how is it then that I have see posts with images in three rather than links?

What is the basis behind this quirky rule of not being able to upload directly?

As this forum is huge, allowing attachment/image uploads would be a corresponding huge burden on server space/load.

There are plenty of free image and file hosts, so no reason why you cannot upload your image to those and post here using the insertimage.gif button or directly with the [noparse]noparse] code.

Yes, but first you have to know that you can't upload to MSE directly, that is far from being obvious for new users.

Not hugely clear, but it is also on every page with a posting box.

Indeed, especially as I can insert my own photos in my gmail emails not as attachments.

A more simple solution would be to limit the size of the image size. MSE's userbase is huge I admit, but sites like experts-exchange.com are also just as large yet they allow direct uploading.

It's not intuitive here and let's be realistic, with the Internet having been around to the mainstream since about 1995, nobody is going to watch a boring MSE YouTube video on what is a forum or thread. It should be made clearer at the point of clicking that upload button.
